Number Your Days
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away" James 4:14
Life comes and goes. The time is short and we are not promised tomorrow.
Self-confidence and pride go together. The humble say “If the Lord wills” as they live their life day by day. Boasting of plans and anticipated success is never the answer. We should not go to the big city, set up business, and come back wealthy! He warns them that this carnal boasting and self-confidence is dangerous. First off, we know nothing about tomorrow; only God knows. The person who boasts about tomorrow is claiming to be God!
..."here is nothing sure about life itself .
Like a cloud that quickly comes and goes..."
O remember that my life is wind:
Mine eye shall no more see good. Job 7:7
For my days are consumed like smoke,
And my bones are burned as an hearth. Psalm 102:3
We do not know when our last day will be, so how can we be so confident? We ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live …"
"Every believer needs to keep in mind the brevity of life."
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12
